How to Build Your Fire pit   

There is no need to spend a lot of cash or time building your fire pit. Even the most extravagant fire pits can be built stress-free. So let’s look at the steps to a DIY fire pit. 

Step 1: Choose Your Fire Pit’s Location 

Safety is the most crucial consideration you have when building your fire pit. Be sure to keep your fire put away from anything that can easily catch fire. Remember that tongues of flame can fly several inches away from the pit. You may need to contact your building code and homeowner association for any restrictions. Purchase your cement blocks according to your style and plan out your outline before you start working. Most legal fire pits measure 3 to 4 feet across. 

Mark the outline of your fire pit with spray paint. 

Step 2: Remove Dirt 

From the inside of your perimeter, remove about seven inches of dirt and soil. 

Step 3: Construct a Base 

Use gravel or sand to fill the hole you just dug. First, put a generous amount of gravel and compact the crushed gravel to be about 5 inches thick. Next, pour a generous amount of crushed gravel paver base into the hole so your finished base will be approximately 5 inches thick and level. 

Step 4: Lay Down Your Stones

After leveling your space, it is time to start laying your stones. As you place your stones together, make sure that they are touching, with no distance between them. If necessary, use a mallet to keep your stones level. 

Step 5: Insert the Fire Bowl

Now that you have the frame of your fire pit, test to see if your fire bowl will fit. Fire bowls come in many sizes and shapes, so be sure to choose the right one for you. Make sure your fire bowl nests easily and tightly into your fire pit. Reposition your blocks if needed. 

Step 6: Use Adhesive to Stick Everything Together

Use constructive adhesives to attach your blocks tightly. Most fire pits have 3 or 4 rows of blocks, so make sure your blocks positioning is secure before you permanently glue them together.
