The reason that there are so many different types of photography lighting is that each subject needs a different type of light, depending on the type of photo. Live subjects may appear more natural under continuous light, where you can capture the movement without worrying about the flash creating shadows. If you are taking photos of posed subjects with no movement, then the flash lighting may create a more realistic looking photo, which can give the illusion of movement.
Are There Other Choices for Photography Lighting?
The other choice you have to make when choosing photography lighting is the type of light you need — umbrella or soft box. Both types of light use indirect lighting to remove shadows, but they do it in different ways. Umbrella lights reflect the light from the inside of the umbrella, while soft box lights diffuse the light through a white cloth.
