What are the Best Hiking and Camping Areas in California

On June 15th, 2021 our bright and beautiful state of California has finally reopened. This means that it is time to explore it. California is big and famous for its bright and beautiful camping grounds and outdoor activities! Every camping ground, however, is not the same. That’s why theLAShop has created our list of our favorite hiking and camping grounds for you to enjoy.

Eaton Canyon Natural Area Park & Nature Center

The Eaton Canyon Natural Area Park and Nature Center is a 190-acre zoological botanical, and geological nature reserve resting at the base of the famous San Gabriel Mountains. This natural area park is filled with miles of trails and features a 40-foot waterfall that cascades into a large pool that offers natural refreshments on a hot summer day. Enjoy the myriad of birds that travel along the hiking trails and the full and colorful foliage that grows on the path. The beautiful nature center makes the perfect backdrop for photographs, videos, and creating long-lasting memories.

Griffith Observatory

The Griffith Observatory is likely one of the most popular attractions in Los Angeles, California. Griffith Park includes the famous observatory, near the three-mile hike in the Mt. Hollywood Trial. This infamous trail leads directly to Hollywood sign which allows you to get closer to the massive work of art than ever before! Many families take their pets to check out caves, canyons, and vistas. After your hike, please take a short visit to Giffith Observatory and enjoy one of the world’s most famous exhibits.

Rock Pool & Century Lake Trails

California offers some of the most beautiful hiking trails on earth- especially in the mountains above Malibu. This 4.4 mile walkway is an amazing way to explore nature while getting exercise and fresh air. The Rock Pool and Century Lake Trails are perfect for the adventurous hikers that do not want to spend the entire weekend outdoors, but enjoy the sun. The trail features famous areas like the former M*A*S*H set and the large Rock Pool, which was where the 1968 movie, Planet of the Apes was filmed. Each trail is large and offers plenty of room for exploration, however, you should be sure to carry a map or GPS device to avoid getting lost and losing track of time.

Bronson Caves

The hike to the Hollywood sign is one of the most iconic walks in L.A. It's a gradual 6.5 miles of moderate, dog-friendly trails with a couple of fun detours and a photogenic payoff. A quick turn near the beginning of the hike will also take you to the Bronson Cave, a.k.a. the Batcave, where Adam West's Batmobile drove out during the opening credits of his campy version of the show. Besides being a famous hike in town, it's also incredibly easy to access, just off a wide residential street, which means if you're looking for a solo experience with peace, quiet, and unadulterated views this may not be for you.
