When you are using grow lights to grow plants, you have to make sure that the lights are the correct distance away from the leaves. A high-powered light, such as a HID light, should be at least 6 feet away from the top of the plants. Lower powered lights, such as LED lights, can be closer to the plant because they give off less heat when operating. Always read the instructions that come with your light to see where the light should be mounted in relation to your plants.
Should I have Multiple Grow Lights for My Plants?
If you are growing different types of plants in the same location, then you may want to have different grow lights. Some plants, such as tropical varieties, need stronger light and will not do well with only fluorescent or LED light. Other plants may get too much light from these and they should be placed on lower shelves with a milder light overhead.
