Adjusting to the New Normal 

There is no question that the past few months have changed the world completely. During these difficult times of confusion and uncertainty, many people are finding it hard to concentrate or adapt to the new changes.

How to Manage Anxiety During a Pandemic

If you are not an essential worker, the most you can do is adhere to your local guidelines in regards to safety procedures and stay-at-home orders. General tips for managing anxiety include: 


Taking a break and breathe. 

You’ll be surprised how simply taking a break from whatever your doing can help you manage stressful situations. We suggest calming activities such as yoga or deep meditation. A great tool for guided meditation and stress management is the Headspace App!  


Limit alcohol and caffeine

These substances are known to trigger anxiety, depression, and even hostility if not managed correctly. 


Welcome humor and release control 

You can not control outside circumstances, especially now, but they can have a negative impact on your life. Actively choose to welcome humor into your life, no matter how small it is. Surround yourself with positivity and laughter, it goes a long way. Try turning your backyard into an amusement park, or just spend more time playing with the family pet. Do something at least once a day that will bring a smile to your face.  


Limit your time watching the news

Though it is imperative to stay informed, the news can sometimes be overwhelming and stressful to watch. Certain headlines or sensational statements can trigger panic attacks or extended periods of paranoia and fear. We would suggest limiting your news consumption to less than an hour a day as any major reports will constantly repeat themselves. 


Exercise Daily 

It is important for your mental and physical health to exercise daily. Due to recent gym closures, many people are finding it hard to exercises. If social distance walking or jogging does not interest you, we suggest working out from home. A mini pedal exerciser is a great way to get your steps in from the comfort of your own home.   1. If you test negative, you can donate blood and plasma to your local centers 
  2. Get a job as an essential worker. You don’t have to be a doctor or scientist to help out. While some people are donating their money, others are donating their time and doing things such as making masks. 
  3. There are several organizations that are asking for volunteers. Consider doing your part at a food bank, animal shelter, or depression hotline center. A little help can go a long way 


Retrain your Brain for work 

What you need to know about business reopenings is different depending on your state. Many people are finding it difficult to return to work after a long period. If you are lucky enough to have a job during these times, you may have trouble focusing at home. The first thing you need to know is how to get organized and where to start.  


A clean area is a great way to limit distractions and increase focus. However, if you’re sitting at a desk all day it can be difficult to hold your concentration.


We suggest switching up your work stations. Move your computer around the house and try completing assignments in different areas.
